D'Arcy is part of the LGBTQIA+ community. They have held several female roles but portrayed one male role, Romeo, in the Romeo and Juliet adaptation staged at the London Southwark Playhouse. Emma and Olivia appeared in House of Dragons together as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. The actor, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, is under no illusion that their induction to the series will be a painless one.
